works for me wednesday: google calendar and ipod touch

by babhoyersh on June 30, 2010

I’m definitely a paper planner person, but paper planners weigh my purse down. If I have a big enough planner for tracking everything, it won’t fit in my purse, and I won’t have a calendar for making doctor’s appointments.

I really missed my PDA which I could sync to the computer and my Franklin Covey software, and carry lots of other stuff, but PDAs aren’t made anymore. As much as I like the iPhone and the other Smart Phones, I didn’t have the budget for the monthly internet fees. And, I don’t need the internet when I’m out shopping.

Then I discovered the iPod Touch. Not only does it carry a huge library of tunes and photos, but I can carry my Google calendar and my Google contact list with me. I can also check my e-mail or surf the web if I’m near free wi-fi, a rarity with five children.

Once I got comfortable with Google Calendar on the iPod Touch, I started creating individual calendars for family members along with calendars for other dated items I needed to track, all of which show on my Google account’s calendar. Each calendar is color-coded. I can set up repeating events on the iPod if I need to, though I prefer to do this through Google where I have more control over the repetition of the event.
