Spring break, I thought. I’ll have my middle 3 kids take Monday and Tuesday off last week to get an early start on the break which started last Wednesday for them. We’ll use our VIP Pass from Visit Philly to visit some fun museums in the area. I’ll take them out to breakfast with an IHOP gift certificate I had won in February.
We started out the week with jammy day though the kids were in their clothes by lunchtime and outside playing with their friends. That’s all they really wanted. To play outside with their friends and blow some bubbles.
On Tuesday, we took a trip down to the Independence Seaport Museum at Penn’s Landing (post to come). While we were there, the Battleship New Jersey fired its guns. We also toured the U.S. Olympia and the submarine Becuna, both docked at Penn’s Landing.
Tuesday night, my daughter got sick. Wednesday morning she got sick. Then my 8 year old got sick, followed by the 3 year old. My husband was home with a high fever, though still ambulatory. I was washing sheets, cleaning rugs, and buying groceries at Costco as I re-envisioned the week.
Thursday – my husband is home and barely getting out of bed. I had to call work for him. The kids are better. We stay home because I don’t want to risk someone getting sick while we’re out or sharing our germs.
Friday – my husband is home and doing a little better. I’m starting to feel the virus myself. The kids are okay with staying home and playing with their friends. I do some last minute shopping because I hadn’t gotten anything for my husband’s birthday which is the next day.
Saturday – I’m definitely sick. My husband is better. The kids are raring to go to my sister’s house, but we cancel. I feel bad for my husband who is taking care of his sick wife on his birthday. The poor guy only wanted a Junior’s cheese cake which I put on my mental list to track down.
Sunday – I’m still sick. My husband has played the Easter bunny for me, doing a great job. The kids love their new art supplies and are eager to bring them to Longwood Gardens, Monday’s promised day trip.
We decide to celebrate Easter at my sister-in-law’s house even though I’m still sick. We want the kids to enjoy the Easter Egg hunt. I just stay away from people as much as I can.
We end Spring Break with a trip to Longwood Gardens as promised. I’m tired and still sick though we manage to see the Children’s Garden and the tree houses.
I wake up yesterday to find that our internet connection is out; we’re one of many over a large geographical area. However, the wireless router is having issues of its own. One of my kids isn’t feeling well, and stays home. On the plus side, I find a missing check book and cooler, along with some information I need to finish our taxes.
Today is catch up day! Lots of dates came home from school yesterday, and I need to get the taxes done. I also need to take my oldest son to the doctor’s this morning. He’s had the same virus my husband and I have had since last Thursday; it’s affecting his ears.
I’ll be picking up the reins again here over the next few days as I feel better.
