What does insurance have to do with the garden? I’m sure you’re asking that question. And, it’s a very relevant one. I found this post from 2009 while looking through my gardening archives.
We’re in the process of switching our home owners and auto insurance to a new carrier. As I was looking up information for the agent, I realized that it had been several years since I had updated my list of household appliances with their serial and model numbers. I also discovered that I had never started a list of gardening equipment or a list of my husband’s power tools.
I’m going to spend the month of February updating these lists plus reviewing my financial info sheet, a sheet that has all our account info etc. in one place. Then I’ll be putting copies in several places as backup in case our house is broken into or burns down or our executor needs the information for probating our will.
Editor: I keep a list of all our equipment in an Excel Spreadsheet. The manuals for the gardening equipment are kept in paper files in my office. If I ever need to help my husband find a replacement part, the Excel spreadsheet lists the model # and serial # for the machine.
