Since I have a busy month ahead as Kindergarten Home Room mom, I’m digging into the archives for old posts to share again, plus I’ll be sharing guest posts from a few Philly Social Media Mom bloggers.
I started my seasonal clothing switch early because of the warm weather. Now I need to check my children’s drawers to make sure all the cold weather clothes are put away, and no one needs anything like socks or underwear.
First of all, all of the sizes through 8 have their own box. Starting with 10/12, each season has its box, though I was able to combine 12/14 and 14/16 together. The size is clearly marked on at least one of the box, though it helps if the size appears on both ends. This year I have two boxes dedicated to catholic school uniforms and one box for sports items and gym uniforms.
Even though, I had decluttered the boxes about a year ago, I went through each size again to ensure that we had the minimum necessary for warm weather and cold weather clothing. Since the kids will be wearing uniforms about three-quarters of the year, this helps with the amount needed for play clothes, and the uniform items can serve as church clothes, too.
I keep the jackets and winter coats in the few closets we have on the second floor. The snow pants, hats, and gloves are stored in a box in the basement. Usually, we hang the snow pants up to dry in the basement after playing in the snow. Storing them in the same area makes putting them away easier.
After doing the clothing switch, I went through the underwear and socks for each child. One child had a huge pile of socks in very poor shape, along with lots of good socks. Another child needed a bigger sock size which came from his sister who had also moved up a sock size.
When I was finished, I had a list of clothing needs for my thrifting. Most of these were for my daughter. Unfortunately, she is close enough in size to her older brother (son number three) that they can’t share many clothes.
The last step is for me to go through the uniform tops and bottoms and mark in a notebook I keep in my purse which items I still need.
How do you handle clothing storage for the different seasons?
