In preparation for the first day of spring (woohoo!), I spent time decorating our front and back porches. One evening this week I went over to Michael’s and studied the arrangements for sale to get a feel for how they were put together. I noticed that the ones I preferred used large and small pieces and opposite colors, like purple and orange. I particularly liked the “pop” that orange flowers provided in the arrangements.
On the right is the flower arrangement that I hung on our front porch. The orange and yellow flowers I bought this week. After I hung the arrangement, I realized that it needed pink to work better with the flowers in a bucket on the front porch. So, the pink flowers in front came from my basement stash. When summer comes, I’m going to switch out the yellow flowers for red or something else. The orange ones can stay in the container until Thanksgiving.
I have two smaller containers like the one on the front porch which I used on the back porch.
All of these flowers I picked up this week. The yellow ones will be changed over the summer and the purple will stay until fall when I add my leafy pieces. Since I didn’t have any florist foam to anchor the stems, I wrapped a rubber band around the stems to keep the arrangement in place.
One last decorating item!
I made this basket last weekend from flowers from Michael’s. I did buy a piece of foam which helped to anchor the flowers. After I put the arrangement together, I realized that I didn’t have enough flowers; I found some purple ones in my stash to fill in. The basket used to live on top of my kitchen cabinets until one of the handles was broken off. The other two baskets are still on top of the cabinets in need of some sprucing up.
