My homemade flannel wipes are beginning to tear apart. I made them over a year ago from a pair of flannel jammies that was getting worn. Today I pulled out of my recycled fabric pile an old flannel shirt that belonged to my dh. I had considered using it in a quilt, but the colors don’t appeal to me, too medium blue and gray. I want something brighter and more colorful for the quilt. The shirt has lines on it which made for easy cutting into rectangles. Then I used a tight version of the zigzag stitch on my machine to hem the edges. I’m hoping that the hemming will keep the new wipes from fraying. I’ve found that wipes need some type of hemming because of their frequent washing.
The buttons that were part of the piece that I cut off the shirt went into my button box for a new project.
I finished two projects last week. First was the pair of red socks that I’ve been making for my four year old. The second is a flannel dress that I’ve been working on for the baby to wear next fall. I sewed the two buttons on the straps this morning. Phew! How many more projects to finish?
