If you’re anything like me, then you’re always looking for simple ways to add a few fun holiday decorations to your home. Since I’m still stuck in the toddler/preschooler phase of motherhood, I like to do crafts that my kids can help with, and that are also unbreakable by little hands.
At Christmas, we usually stock up on a bag of red and white craft supplies like pipe cleaner, pom poms, and googly eyes, and use the leftovers for Valentine’s Day. One day, we were playing with the pipe cleaners, and I came up with this red and white pipe cleaner heart. I strung a few together on a string to make a festive garland for our mantle for Valentine’s Day.
To make this pipe cleaner heart, all you need is one white and one red pipe cleaner, or really any two different colored pipe cleaners will work. Experiment with what you have and see how they turn out. I really like the metallic version we did too.
1. Simply twist the pipe cleaners around each other to make the red and white pattern.
2. Then bend the pipe cleaner into a heart shape and twist the two ends together.
You could also twist another pipe cleaner onto them and make pencil toppers like this from Red Ted Art.
Hang them on a string or just sit them around to look pretty in a centerpiece. There are plenty of options, so have fun and get creative with them. My kids thought they were really neat and were impressed that they looked like candy canes.
