Meet my new favorite dessert for the kids – Chocomole from Ciao-Chow. And please don’t tell them that a vegetable, avocado, lurks in this dessert. I am in awe of the genius behind this combination of cocoa powder, honey, and avocado with a little water thrown in to smooth things in the blender. Truly amazing!
The recipe makes about five quarter cup servings. I used my cute gray cups from Ikea that serve as hot chocolate cups during the fall and winter.
Next time, I’m going to try doubling the recipe, but keeping the honey at 1/4 cup and substituting 1/4 cup of maple syrup for the rest of the honey. My picky gourmand child noticed the flavor of the honey and wanted regular sugar in the recipe, but I think the sugar won’t blend as well as maple syrup would. Another way to go is to use a bit of vanilla instead of water to help balance the honey flavor.
After blending, one could also mix in chunky additions like organic chocolate chips, bits of Heath bar (very unhealthy!), or marshmallows. I can’t wait to send this to school in a lunchbox and see how it does!
