Yesterday, in addition to doing a second batch of concord grape juice, the kids and I tackled the green grapes growing next to their dirt pile. I believe these vines are only two years old. Unfortunately I didn’t write down what I put in, and clearly they are not concord grapes.
However, the green grapes produce a juice with a beautiful grapefruit color. They were also much easier to harvest with their bunches mostly intact and not covered with vines. The kids have asked to drink the juice. It tastes a bit like the concord grapes.
Today, we’ll do our final harvest of concord grapes and the rest of the green grapes. I also hope to do a final batch of green beans in the pressure canner.
I had planned on going to a local orchard this week as a final fieldtrip for our family before school starts and to pick summer apples for applesauce. Then I realized that I needed to take care of our home harvest before anything else. Next week we’ll do the apple orchard trip as summer’s last hurrah.
