About a year ago, I attended a blogger event at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square and received a free family membership as one of their Star Bloggers. As each season rolled around this year, my kids and I have visited Longwood, all of us finding favorite spots to revisit. You’ll find our visits on my Delaware Valley Museums, Attractions, and Nature Walks for Kids page.
When the folks at Longwood offered a free family membership again, I was beyond thrilled. Christmas last year was magical. In fact, we went twice during the Christmas season, including a night visit to see the lights in the Conversatory and around the ground of Longwood. Seeing the Christmas ornaments made by local elementary students in the fruit tree section of the Conservatory has inspired my Kid-Crafted Christmas theme this year.
Yesterday, I took my 6 year old daughter on a photo jaunt at Longwood to see the Christmas decorations in the daytime. We arrived shortly after 9 am and found the grounds not too busy. As the morning went on, more people came to visit. Members need timed tickets on peak days (Saturday and Sunday after 2 pm); non-members need timed tickets at all which can be purchase in advance at Longwood Gardens online.
After walking through the Conversatory, visiting the Garden Railway to see Thomas, and the DuPont home to see Bellin, one of Longwood’s cats, we ate lunch at the Cafe near the Conservatory. With so many healthy options and prepackaged lunches for the kids, eating at Longwood is a breeze. I love not packing lunch!
