how does your garden grow may 2, 2011

Come here on Tuesdays to read about my vegetable garden project and share yours.

My Garden

I have a crazy week with school and sports, plus getting ready for my oldest son’s 8th grade graduation so this week’s update is all about the pictures!

Flowering Broccoli
Most of the broccoli has small heads on them, except for 3 plants which have this way of growing along with the flowers. I’m not sure why.

Blueberry
I looked at the blueberry slips at Walmart which were $5 and decided to go with these big plants available at Home Depot for $14.97. I bought 5. The Walmart ones didn’t look alive.

red raspberries
I planted these red raspberries last year, along with several in the front yard along the hedge. All of them look happy and healthy.

san marzano tomato
All of my plum tomatoes and other tomato plants that I picked up from a New Jersey farmer look fabulous. The deer haven’t found them yet, but I think one of the kids damaged a tomato plant in a flower bed.

snap peas
The snap peas are happy and healthy, too, though in need of support. I’m waiting on my husband who wants to install supports for the snap peas and the next crop, Blue Lake Green beans.

What a lovely garden you have! Everything looks healthy and is growing very well. It is a very cool thing to be able to buy plants and other products from local farmers–good for you!

Hi Barb,

I just found your blog thru the Barn Hop. I’m impressed with how much you have planted out already! We are in south central PA (just north of Harrisburg) and it’s been s000 wet here that we were just able to plant our sugar snap peas and some lettuce yesterday. My strawberries and one blueberry bush are looking good however, so there’s hope;)

Blessings,
Kelly

We’ve been pretty wet in the Philly area, though not as wet as your area. I thought the snap peas would be much farther along; it’s 6 weeks since we’ve planted them. I should keep records of the first harvest for each plant. I keep track of when I plant stuff, but not when I harvest.

Stopping by from an Oregon Cottage, what a great garden you have! You will be much happier with the larger blueberries.

Your garden looks great:) I would love to plant some blueberry and rasberry trees, but we are planning on moving soon so I will have to wait for now. Thanks for stopping by my by my blog.

Raspberry vines are easy to grow and easy to transplant, not to mention, they will plant themselves if given the opportunity. I would highly recommend planting some as soon after you move as possible! They’re one of my favorite fruiting vines.
