Healthy Kid Snack: Healthy Halloween Treats
As a Kindergarten homeroom mom this year and Girl Scout volunteer, I love to serve healthy Halloween treats at school parties and scouting functions. However, these Halloween treats need to be easy to find at the grocery store and easy to make. Preparing for a school Halloween party needs to be as stress-free as possible.
Each of these snacks took about 5 minutes to make, tops. A few only need a minute. Depending on the number of kids you’ll be serving, ask a few moms to help you create these. For the Bloody Band Aid snack, create an assembly line to prepare these and store them on stacking backing racks for easy transportation in the car.
I included prices for several of the Halloween treats. They should all be under $.50 to make. I found my supplies at Target and saved an extra 10% thanks to the Target Cartwheel app on my iPhone.
Important Tool: Sharpie Medium Point Black Pen
Make sure you have a few Sharpie pens on hand to facilitate creating the snacks.
Ghost Hard boiled Egg
Hard boil eggs for 15 minutes and allow them to cool completely. Once cool and dry, draw the ghost face with a Sharpie marker.
Cost of Healthy Kid Snack: $.16
Easy peasy! Just draw a ghost face on the mozzarella stick package.
Cost of Healthy Kid Snack: $.24
Fill a small ice cream cone with a 3-Tablespoon scoop of strawberry yogurt. If you want the yogurt to be really red, add natural food coloring.
Bloody Band Aid
Break graham crackers into the smallest rectangles possible. Cut small squares from slices of mozzarella cheese and lay on top of the graham cracker. Dab a small bit of strawberry jam, and smear it a little bit.
Spiders on a Log
Cut celery stalks into 2 inch-long pieces. Add about 1 Tablespoon of peanut butter. I like to use the Jif Natural Creamy Peanut Butter. Add a small plastic spider or a plastic spider ring.
Jack o’ Lantern and Ghost Fruit Cups
Go to town drawing Jack o’ lantern and ghost faces on Peach, Pear, Applesauce, and Mandarin Orange Fruit Cups.
