Creating a Terrarium is a great winter gardening project you can do with your kids. We made our first terrarium last year which I’ve kept going for a year. (I have a sort of blacker thumb when it comes to house plants.)
As long as the plants you choose for the terrarium have similar needs for water and light, creating a terrarium is a relatively simple process as I explain in my post about creating a terrarium. A terrarium can be any size. You can add in whatever special touches you like; we have 2 turtles for our turtle-loving 5 year old.
Last year, terrariums were a big attraction at the Philadelphia Flower Show. I found tons of ideas which I’m going through with my kids. The air plant terrariums are the easiest ones to make since the air plants only need a spritz of water once a week. I also like the more open terrariums though I worry about little fingers digging into the dirt.
