Last weekend, I did my first race in the summer heat. A 1 p.m. race, the Hicks’ 5 Miler took place on the mostly shaded streets of West Chester, PA, except for one part of the race. The hill – long, gradual, and in full sun. I ran with 2 other moms. They weren’t able to finish the race, and I struggled during the last mile. However, since it was a small group of racers, I won my age group for the women! My official time for the 5 miles was 46:13, about 3 minutes slower than my previous 5 mile race time. However, I’m happy with the time given the conditions.
Wearing the right clothes in the heat plus carrying a water bottle which I used for hydration and pouring on myself definitely helped me stay cool for the race. In the video below, I share my new summer running wardrobe, all C9 by Champion clothes from Target. I’ve found most of my running clothes on the clearance rack, with a few on sale.
Each time I go to Target, I check the clearance rack. I think I’ve saved a few hundred dollars just by watching the clearance rack. I also keep an eye out for tops at my local Goodwill; they run about $3.75. I’d much rather spend my money on running shoes than the clothes.
