Running Rehabilitation Update
I finished my 3rd week of physical therapy making great strides this week. I started running/walking at the end of last week, and did 2 run/walk workouts this week. I’m doing a 3rd run/walk workout Saturday morning on the road.
My ankles are much stronger. I last for 30 to 40 seconds on the balance board, and about 10 seconds on the balance ball. I can do 30 second planks now, instead of 20 second ones. My core feels much stronger. I credit both the physical therapy sessions twice a week, and my work at home – the physical therapy homework and my extra workouts.
New for me this week – dynamic stretching for running. My physical therapist sent me a link to a series of videos on Running Times which show dynamic stretching exercises. Here’s another one I found on YouTube which warms up from the top of the body down to the legs.
New Workout: Gaiam Medicine Ball Workout by Reebok
Last week when I was at Target, I picked up a Reebok Medicine Ball with DVD. I chose the 6 lb. ball to ensure I could finish the workout. This medicine ball workout targets the core of the body, an area that I’m weak in as a runner. The workout is about 12 to 13 minutes. I was able to do it in a small space about 10 foot by 10 foot.
