On Sunday afternoon, I decided on the spur of the moment to take some pictures of Swarthmore College, home to Scott Arboretum. It’s one of our favorite places to walk because of the fun little nooks and the amazing architecture.
One of my goals this summer was to evaluate what I’m doing as a mom, especially in the area of self care. While getting enough sleep, eating good food, and exercising daily are important, having a creative outlet is equally important. I’ve noticed that I have been taking fewer pictures of the kids recently, and I haven’t made any effort to play with my photos in Photoshop.
Off I went to Swarthmore to wander the campus and capture what I see. I decided to bring my 3 year old along, even though I knew I might have to follow his lead and not mine. I brought his strider along to help him keep up with me and plenty of water. I used my Canon kit 18 – 55 mm lens and Canon macro lens with my Canon Digital Rebel to take the pictures. My goal was simply to shoot a lot and play with the lens.
If you go, the campus is a good place to take little people. The many paths are stroller-friendly, and right now, there aren’t many students around. In addition, to the plant collection of the Scott Arboretum, there are a number of pieces of art installed around the campus.
