The going rate for premade Halloween costumes is about $20 to $40, depending on where you go and the elaborateness of the costume. For 5 kids, that’s $100 to $200 on costumes alone for Halloween. I love my kids dearly though I’m not paying that. To me, Halloween is about creative costumes; creativity comes from working with what you have or taking a trip to the local thrift store.
If you can scoop up a deal on a Halloween costume, do it. When my kids were toddlers and preschoolers, I scored $5 costumes at Old Navy. Those costumes lasted through 4 kids, plus they were well-designed and sturdy. If we had a cold Halloween, I knew my kids would be fine in their costumes. The costumes washed well, too when one kid threw up about 5 feet from our front door.
