This is a drawing that my oldest son did, probably six or seven years ago. It’s been hanging on my office closet door, gently fading in the sun. It’s one of my favorite pieces of artwork by my children and I wanted a way to preserve it.
I decided to embroider the entire picture. It won’t be exactly like the picture, but I hope to capture enough of the technique to make it a permanent memory.
I drew the pumpkin freehand and I’ll do the same with the table under the pumpkin. I am going to use a transfer process for the writing since I don’t think I can freehand that part as well. After doing an outline stitch, I’m using chain stitch to convey how the marker looks on paper. It doesn’t look like much now, but I think with more lines of chain stitch, the embroidered stem will look more like the drawn and colored stem. When I’m finished, this will become a pillow in our living room or a framed piece if I’m feeling worried about the kids messing with it.
