Prepare Ahead of Time
As a mom of 5 kids, I can tell you that doing whatever you can ahead of time will save you a lot of stress on Christmas morning. Go through the list in Meet Penny’s post a few days before Christmas and put everything in a basket that you tuck near the Christmas tree. No more hunting for scissors or batteries!

As a parent with 19+ years of experience, I want you to prepare your own expectations as a parent, especially if you’re a parent of little ones:
- Your kids will wake up at the crack of dawn, even if you put them to bed as late as you could the night before.
- They may, well, they probably won’t like any new Christmas breakfast recipe. Have a back up plan in the form of a box of donuts or single-serve breakfast cereal.
- Your kids will not love every single gift, even the ones they ask for. So much expectation has built up in them that the reality may not be enough.
- As much as you want to appreciate the unwrapping of each and every gift, it won’t happen. Your kids will fly through the presents like nobody’s business. Do your best to keep up, and don’t stress.
