Sometimes the easiest desserts are the best like these s’mores that brought back memories of camping as a Girl Scout. Unfortunately, there are no campfires around us, and we have a gas grill. Which brought me to making these in the oven. My teen turned his nose up at them because the marshmallows weren’t roasted. Hmph! However, the younger ones gobbled them all up. Boo-yeah! And, my 7 year old was thrilled to help. He even decided to see which was better – putting the chocolate on top of the marshmallows or underneath.
Of course, after seeing healthier versions of these 3 ingredients, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate bars at Whole Foods, I went with the last minute choices at Giant. I didn’t even read the graham cracker box or marshmallow bag to make sure we weren’t getting HFCS. Shocking, I know. So, do what I say, not what I show you above.
This is a great dessert to do with the kids. We made up the cookie sheets before dinner, and the s’mores did their thing in the oven while we ate. If you want a faster dessert, you could turn up the temperature a little, though watch to make sure you don’t end up with a mess of marshmallow and chocolate. These came out perfect – just warm enough to be gooey when we bit down, but not too hot to burn anyone.
We won’t tell anyone if you keep practicing making these right up until August 10th which is National S’mores Day. After all, the Girl Scouts, who may be responsible for this gooey treat, were always prepared. Oh, and check out these 20 alternatives to traditional S’mores from B-Inspired Mama!
